Microsoft PowerPoint comes built in with a range of powerpoint themes for the user to choose from when it comes to making powerpoint presentations. However, if none of the preset themes fit with what you wish to achieve, you can actually create a custom powerpoint theme for yourself. Here’s how to do so:
- Colours
You are able to change theme colours in 2 ways. The colours that can be changed are text, background, hyperlink, and accent colours. Locate your View tab and choose the Slide Master. This will enable you to select Colours and proceed to Customise colours. This will lead to a Create new theme colours dialog box where you can make changes under the Theme Colours. You can choose to click on the buttons next to the theme colour elements and manually choose the colours or select More colours and select the colours under the Standard tab. You can even enter colour formulas, give your new theme colours a name and save.
- Fonts
You can also customise presentation themes by customising the fonts used for your presentation. Locate the view tab and choose the Slide Master once more. From the Slide Master tab, choose Fonts and you will be able to choose Customise Fonts. This will open up a dialog box that allows you to Create new theme fonts. Locate the Heading and Body font boxes and choose the fonts you want to use. You will then be prompted to name these new fonts. Save when you are finished with the process.
- Effects
Customise your own powerpoint theme effects by selecting what you want to include. For example: Shadows, reflections, fills and others. You can’t create your own theme effect sets but you can choose the presets of effects that will work with your presentation. Using the steps above, access the Slide Master. This time, choose Effects. You will then be prompted to choose whatever effects are available inside. Once you are done, save it.
- Save
Now in order to save all the changes you have made into a custom powerpoint theme, you will have to save it as a .thmx file in order to make it a custom theme. Once you have saved that, you will then be able to apply this new theme to other presentations.
Go through the motions to access your Slide Master again and choose Themes. Save your current theme using an easily identifiable name. You will find it in your Document themes folder and it will automatically be added to your custom themes list under the design tab.
- Test
Once you have created your custom powerpoint theme, feel free to test out different combinations and see what custom powerpoint themes work for you. If you feel like reverting back and starting over, you can reset your options and make the relevant changes once again until you are satisfied with your powerpoint themes.
