When you have video or audio included in your powerpoint presentations, you need to be careful and research on troubleshooting playback issues in cases where they experience issues so that you won’t be stuck and at a loss of what to do during presentations. Here’s how to troubleshoot playback issues in 5 ways:
- Optimisation
Minimise playback issues of video or audio by making sure you have optimised your presentation slides for compatibility with a series of other devices. Look for your File tab and choose Info. If you have playback issues, or your video/audio is in a format that may experience compatibility issues, Microsoft Powerpoint will enable the Optimise Compatibility choice for you. The choice will also come with basic troubleshooting tips as well as a possible list of errors for you to review. Once you choose optimise compatibility, Microsoft Powerpoint will do the rest of the work for you.
- Convert
When you have linked videos, Microsoft Powerpoint would suggest in it’s compatibility report for you to choose to embed them instead. Choose the View Links option in the report to open up a dialog box that will enable you to embed your videos. Choose Break link for every link you want to embed inside. Make sure to also upgrade your media file formats in Powerpoint so that your files will be able to embed with the newest format. You can upgrade by choosing the File tab and selecting Info. Then choose convert. Once you have done so, you will need to choose Optimise for compatibility again to see if there are any other existing issues.
- Codec
If your video or audio is unable to play because of errors caused by video compatibility codec, you may need to install the codec that is necessary to run your video/audio. Look for a trusted 3rd party media decoder/encoder filter that can help you decode and encode different formats and follow the instructions there to install it. Test it out after you have installed the codec to see if you can now run your media with no hindrances.
- Synchronise
For audio, you can choose to synchronise your music to your slides. Microsoft Powerpoint allows users to sync audio by using 3rd party audio editing tools (like Audacity etc) and combining songs into one entire file so that they can play on continue throughout your slide show. If you have trouble syncing your music, you can make use of this technique.
- Community
If none of the above solutions work, you may need to seek help through the official Microsoft Office community. Engage with users or staff members for basic troubleshooting. Keep an eye out for articles and tutorials on the official website too, because there may be valuable insights you can use to help resolve, fix or at least find a workaround for yourself.
