Microsoft Powerpoint comes with a lot of features that are designed to optimise the user’s productivity. Not only are users able to complete a multitude of tasks within Microsoft Powerpoint, they can also achieve both convenience and quality with the capabilities of the software. Even to this day, there are so many features that one can explore and discover in Powerpoint. Today, we cover 5 hidden features in Powerpoint that you should know about:
- Action Assignment for Action Button
To add action buttons into your Powerpoint presentation and assign actions to these built in button shapes, you can do so by first looking for the Insert Tab. Under the series of options, you can choose the illustrations group, which will allow you to choose the Shapes functions. Look for action buttons and click the button shapes you want added. You will then be required to pick the location on your presentation slides and drag your pointer so that the shape is drawn. Access the Action settings and choose the behaviour type using slide show view. Choose object action and choose the action you want applied to the button. Once done, choose OK to apply the changes.
- Action Assignment for Picture
Apart from action buttons, you can also assign actions to images in your powerpoint presentation. Search under the Insert tab for the Illustrations group. You can choose the picture option, but if you want to use the SmartArt graphics in Microsoft Powerpoint, you can choose that option too. This will allow you to insert the image. But do note that if you are using SmartArt, then the actions can only be assigned to the text within shapes but not to individual shapes. Now choose the Insert tab again and find the links group, then select the action option. Choose object action and choose the action for your image.
- Symbol Insertion
If your powerpoint presentation requires the use of special symbols like the trademark sign, foreign currency sign or other symbols that are not found on your keyboard, you will have to use the autocorrect function to type them out or look for them under the Insert tab and symbol section. Some examples are (™) for the trademark symbol. For more special symbols, you can search for their keystrokes by choosing the File tab again and choosing options. Look under the proofing section and select the autocorrect options choice. You will then be able to see the list of symbols. If you intend to use if often, you can use the autocorrect character and type a keystroke in the replace area so that whenever you type it, it will be replaced with the symbol.
- Fractions
In Microsoft Powerpoint, there are certain fractions that do not perform an automatic switch to fraction characters after you have typed them. If you want your typed fractions to switch to fraction characters, you can choose the Insert tab and find the Symbols option. Look for the More symbols choice and you will find a drop down list with different categories. Choose Number forms and choose a fraction. Once you have made a choice, select Insert and close.
- Quick Clearing
Decided that you don’t want all the formatting you’ve applied to your Powerpoint text? No problem- you do not have to remove the formats you have applied one by one, that wastes too much time. Unlike the capabilities of the Microsoft Word software, you have to perform certain steps in Microsoft Powerpoint. Choose the text that you want returned to default and locate your Home tab. Once done, look for your Font group. This will enable you to select the clear all formatting option.
