5 Spell Check Basics To Remember And Use In Microsoft Word Projects
The spell check function does not exist only to serve one function. When it come to Microsoft Word, there are many instances in which a little customisation goes a long way. Here are 5 spell check basics that you can use to your advantage in your Microsoft Word projects:
1. Enabling/Disabling
By default, Microsoft Word enables the spelling and grammar checker for all Microsoft Word projects. Users who do not wish to have potential errors marked can choose to disable the checker. In order to do so, locate the file menu and choose options. This will enable the proofing option for selection. Remove the check option under the check spelling or mark grammar options.
2. Making Changes
To enable smooth running of the spelling or grammar checker in your Microsoft Word projects, locate the review tab and choose the Spelling option under the Proofing group. You will then be navigated into a task pane revealing the first misspelling that has been detected by the checker. You can fix the errors by either selecting change, editing the word directly, adding the word into your dictionary or ignoring the word ( ignore, ignore all or ignore once).
3. Custom Dictionary Creation
In situations where you find yourself needing to create a custom dictionary for Microsoft Word to refer to altogether, you can do so by opening up the custom dictionaries dialog box in Microsoft Word. Locate the new option and rename your dictionary before saving it. Select the relevant dictionary language from the menu and use it as default by either choosing the change default dictionary for all languages option or for a particular language.
4. Adding/Removing Words
Error checking for your Microsoft Word projects can be made smoother by adding or removing words to your custom dictionary. Locate the file tab of your Microsoft Word software and choose options. You will then be able to select proofing. Make sure to clear the check box asking Microsoft Word to suggest from the main dictionary only and select your custom dictionaries. Right click the words you are checking and select the add to dictionary option that has now been enabled. You can also open up the custom dictionaries dialog box and add in the words manually through typing.
5. Rechecking Ignored Spelling/Grammar
If you have skipped checking for certain spelling or grammar in your Microsoft Word projects, there are ways you can undertake to recheck them again. Simply locate the File menu and choose the options tab to locate proofing. Once you have done so, look for When correcting Spelling/Grammar. This will enable you to select the recheck document option. This will prompt Microsoft Word to reset the settings in your Microsoft Word projects and recheck your documents.
